The Young Water Professionals is an empowerment platform of the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) was tasked with ensuring transformation and empowerment in the water sector. The aim is to spearhead initiatives and activities that will ensure the transformation and inclusivity of the water sector. For someone who is action-orientated and who always attempts to secure solutions to challenges, Mmakgomo found herself fit to be part of the forum to contribute to solutions to water and sanitation-related challenges by facilitating meaningful discussions and making an impact in the South African water sector. Her interest in water sector activities and matters was sparked when I started working at Lepelle Northern Water in 2016 and she was appointed in 2019 to serve in the Young Water Professionals to date. In December 2022 she was honored with a certificate of recognition by WISA for ongoing volunteer efforts and commitment to the Young Water Professionals Empowerment Platform.
